Books We Design

What story would you like to tell?

Every family has more than one book in them. Here are the ones we make most often.

Legacy Books

Generations of your family in one place, with the names and stories that go with them.

Milestone Books

Bar and bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, birthdays, and the years that led up to them.

Wedding Books

Your day, curated to your style and designed to outlast the cake topper.

Travel Books

The trip you keep talking about, finally off your phone.

Year in Review

Twelve months of everyday life, gathered before they disappear into the camera roll.

Tribute Books

A gentle way to honor someone you have lost, made at whatever pace you need.

Packages

Three books. The same care in each.

Every book is designed in our Los Angeles studio, and I review each one before it goes to print. We shape your story and design every spread, including a cover designed for your family. The difference between the three is the book you hold in your hands.

Prices shown are for our 10x10 square book, which suits nearly every layout. Other sizes, including 12x12, are available and quoted during your consultation.

Every book includes

  • Design from up to 300 photos you have chosen, in the order you want them
  • 15 spreads (30 pages), and up to 50 spreads (100 pages)
  • A cover designed for your family
  • Three rounds of revisions

Most of our books have 2 to 3 photos per page, so each moment has room to breathe. A 30-page book holds about 60 to 90 photos, and 300 photos usually fill around 100 pages. For a series, like a baby's first year or a bride and groom walking down the aisle, we may group more photos on a single spread to show the movement.

Quoted separately, after we review your photos

  • Curation: we choose the best photos from a larger collection for you.
  • Photo preparation: sorting photos from several sources, matching camera dates and times, and correcting files that are too small to print well.
  • Scanning and restoration for prints, slides, and negatives.
  • Rush timelines, when you need your book sooner.
  • Revisions beyond the three rounds included.
  • Additional copies and other sizes.

We design for the strongest story, so not every photo you send may appear in the final book. Every collection is different. Once we see your photos, I will tell you exactly what your book needs and what it will cost before any work begins.

How It Works

Five steps from boxes to a book.

  1. Consultation

A complimentary call to talk about the story you want to tell and what you have to tell it with.

  2. Gather

Upload your digital files, mail a drive, or let us pick up your collection. Please leave albums and envelopes exactly as they are. Every caption and every order is a clue for us. Why it matters.

  3. Curate

We scan what needs scanning and sequence your photos to carry your story. If you would like us to choose them, we curate your collection for you.

  4. Design and proof

You review the full book online and send us your notes. We refine it with you over three rounds of revisions.

  5. Print and deliver

I review every page before your book goes to print, and it arrives at your door.

Questions

Custom photo book FAQ

Do I need to choose the photos myself?

You can, but you do not have to. Your book price includes design from up to 300 photos you have chosen and put in order. If choosing feels overwhelming, we are expert curators and happy to do it for you. Curation is quoted separately once we see your collection.

What files should I send?

Please send your original, full-resolution files. Photos from phones and cameras are usually fine as they are. If some files are too small to print well, or come from cameras set to different times, we will let you know and quote any preparation needed before we begin.

What is the difference between the Heirloom and Legacy covers?

Both covers carry a logo or illustration designed for your family. On the Heirloom, the design is printed in black or white on the front cover and spine. On the Legacy, the design is pressed into the material itself on the front and spine, debossed or in foil, for a finish you can feel. If you are undecided about which suits your book, I will recommend one during your consultation.

My photos are prints and albums. Can you still make a book?

Yes. We scan prints, albums, slides, and negatives in our studio. Please leave everything in its albums and envelopes. The order and captions help us date and sequence your photos.

Can I add text to my book?

Yes. We recommend captions on some spreads so you remember the place and the people. For legacy books, we can add full pages about your family's history.

Can you make a book from scrapbooks, letters, or newspaper clippings?

Yes. For collections with many documents and scrapbook pages, we also design larger coffee table books of up to 160 pages. Ask about them during your consultation.

My only copies are on a CD or hard drive, and I am nervous about mailing them.

You do not need to mail anything. We will send you a secure upload link that holds up to 100 GB. For anything larger, you can mail us a copy on an external drive and keep the original, or we can pick up your collection in person.

How many rounds of revisions are included?

Three rounds are included with every book.

How long does it take?

Most books take 3 to 7 weeks from your first consultation to delivery. The timeline depends on the size of your collection and how quickly we finalize the design together.

What sizes do you offer?

Our starting prices are for a 10x10 square book, which suits nearly every layout. Other sizes, including 12x12, are quoted during your consultation.

Can I order more copies later?

Yes. We keep your design files for 12 months after delivery.
